Three Sisters

2015 Without Walls Festival, La Jolla Playhouse, 2015
A production by THE TRIP in association with La Jolla Playhouse

Directed and Adapted by Tom Dugdale
Costumes by Eliza Benzoni
Original Music and Film by Tom Dugdale

Three Sisters was staged site-specifically. Acts 1, 2, and 4 were played on a tennis court. Act 3 was presented as a film, created during the rehearsal period by THE TRIP.

Program Note
Three Sisters was written by Anton Chekhov in 1900. It is the only one of his four major plays that he called a drama. To our knowledge, Chekhov never played tennis. Certainly not professionally. However, it's interesting to note that there was recently a professional tennis player also named Anton Chekhov. He won a total of $450 in prize money and was ranked as high as 1,061st in the world. It would seem his career was a failure and his dreams of being a champion were unrealized, if those were his dreams at all. He is no longer competing.
